Power has now been restored to the vast majority of homes and businesses affected by this morning’s outages.

More than 4,000 customers in the east and north of the county were without power following heavy winds overnight.

The outages mainly affect the Milford, Letterkenny, Twin Towns and  Killygordon areas. The worst hit area is around Milford where 2,695 customers were without a supply from 10:17 am, before power was restored within 30 minutes.

In Letterkenny, 28 customers are  still affected as well as further 18 in Ramelton. ESB Networks expects power to be restored in both areas by early afternoon.

“Fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous – ever approach or touch them. Call our emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 (+353 21 2382410), 999 or 112,” an ESB spokesperson said.
