‘Snow chance’ of a white Christmas in Donegal as big day approaches

Hopes of a white Christmas in Ireland appear to have gone cold.

BoyleSports have pushed the odds on snow in Donegal next Monday out from 4/1 to 6/1.

Met Éireann’s Status Yellow weather warning this week focussed on strong winds and potentially dangerous sea conditions, but punters who were banking on snowfall on the 25th have been dealt a blow with temperatures predicted to be higher than average.

With just days to go, the chances of snow around the country look to be fading completely, with odds on Donegal (6/1), Knock (7/1), Cork (8/1) and Kerry (8/1) airports turning white this Christmas all on the drift.

It remains slightly more likely at 5/1 that Belfast International Airport is hit by snow on Christmas day, although the Met Office forecast suggests Monday’s festivities in the north will have a backdrop of sunny spells and intermittent showers.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It looks like Santa may have to navigate some wet and windy conditions, but the white Christmas backers look set to miss out this year as the odds have gradually melted away this week.”
