Concern has been raised by locals after extensive damage was caused to the pier in Portsalon yesterday.
After a week of high winds and rough seas battering the Donegal coastline, the pier has appeared even worse for wear.
Works had been scheduled to be carried out over the Summer to ensure the pier’s condition would not worsen further, but the planned works were never completed.
The pier had already been closed earlier this year facilitate the works, but as they were not completed before October the required grant funding could not be drawn down to finish them.
Further damage now may require even more works to the pier to make it safe for the future, and could cause further disruption to tourism activities in the area.
