New figures released by An Garda Siochana today show that 673 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence nationwide in recent weeks.
The arrests are a part of the force’s Christmas and New Year Road Safety Operation, which is in place until the 4th of January.
Gardaí say they have also issued 12,147 fixed charge penalty notices for speeding, 882 for the use of mobile phones behind the wheel, and 274 for drivers not wearing their seatbelts.
The enforcement operation comes following a sharp rise in road deaths in 2023 in the state.
