Errigal Mountain has seen hundreds of climbers take on the challenge of Donegal’s highest peak over the festive season.

The new path up the mountain has made it accessible to so many more people than in recent years.

However, the operators of the Errigal Mountain website and Facebook page have warned people to take extra care and to stay on the path over the holiday period.

It warned “Lots of us are looking forward to getting out for a hike over the holidays.

“Choose routes that avoid fragile, boggy terrain if you can.”

The website urged people to watch a short clip recently broadcast by RTE in conjunction with the National Parks & Wildlife Service and Mountaineering Ireland.

The clip is available at https://www.rte.ie/…/1226/1423249-hillwalking-boglands/

The spokesperson added  “We love the hills, let’s do what we can to protect them!”
