An investigation is underway into a fire at a building in Ringsend, Dublin, which was due to be used as emergency accommodation for homeless families.
The blaze broke out at a vacant pub, the former Shipwright, in the early hours of Sunday.
The building was in the public eye recently after being falsely rumoured as a future accommodation centre for asylum seekers. In reality, it was intended to be a hub for families presenting as homeless.
Six fire engines attended the scene last night and worked for hours to extinguish the blaze. Nobody was injured but the building has been extensively damaged.
An Garda Síochána said the scene was being preserved for forensic examination and inquiries are ongoing.
