Shay Given has spoken of his family’s heartache after they suffered a double tragedy over Christmas.

Kieran Given, Shay’s brother, passed away in Germany on December 23, while his beloved uncle Ambrose Given died on Christmas Day.

Both Kieran and Ambrose died following illnesses.

Lifford legend Shay took to his social media channel to tell of his grief and to thank the public for all their support.

He wrote “It’s hard to find the words to describe this week for the Given family, saying goodbye to our amazing brother who was also a friend to so many, a musician, husband, father and son.

‘Our gang will never be the same again, but we will all remember and celebrate the fun times we had and love and support his dear wife Doris and two incredible sons @joshuagivenphotography and@joel.given.

‘This week we also said goodbye to our uncle Ambrose, another huge hole in our family. Thanks for all the love and support during this difficult time.”

Kieran, who was a talented singer and songwriter, also worked in the photography business. He died peacefully at his home in Altensteig, Germany, where his funeral took place on Saturday, December 30.

He is survived by his wife Doris and two sons, Joshua and Joel.

Ambrose, who lived in Knockagarron in Convoy passed away on Christmas Day at the Donegal Hospice after a short illness.

The former St Mary’s GAA player was laid to rest on Thursday, December 28, following a funeral mass in St Mary’s Church, Convoy.
