Works begin on Donegal town to Ballybofey road

Roadworks that will last nine months commenced on the McGroary’s Brae hard shoulder this week.

Donegal County Council confirmed temporary traffic lights will be in place on the 750 metre stretch of the N15 between Donegal town and Ballybofey until September.

“The first phase of the traffic management will include a stop/go system to reduce the carriageway to one lane to enable the contractor to construct the works and it is expected that there will be some delays during this period,” a council spokesperson said.

Last year, the Finn Wheelers Cycling Club and their counterparts in Donegal town (main pic) demanded the construction of a hard shoulder on the steep climb known locally as McGroary’s Brae.

Currently, a 750 metre section of the hill does not have a hard shoulder or climbing lane.
