A fund set up to help a young Donegal man after he was involved in a horrific accident in America has already surpassed €20,000 after it was set up just last night.

Daniel Gallagher Meenakillew, Ardara was involved in a serious road traffic accident in Orlando, Florida while on holidays with family on December 29th last.

Daniel suffered severe injuries and is currently in a critical condition in Orlando Regional Medical Centre and is under constant 24 hour care by a team of doctors.

A group of Daniel’s friends have come together to set up a Go Fund Me campaign to support Daniel and the Gallagher family.

The money raised will go to cover medical and travel expenses as there will need to be a family member available at all times in Orlando with power of attorney to make important decisions on his behalf if and when the need arises.

The fund has an initial goal of raising €50,000 and has had a remarkable start thanks to the generosity of people.

A spokesperson for the a group called ‘Friends of Daniel Gallagher’ said “Hopefully Daniel can make a full recovery and can return home to Ireland as soon as doctors deem him well enough to travel.”

If anyone is not comfortable making a donation on Go Fund Me and wants to contact the committee they can do so on privately through the contact button on the Go Fund Me page.

“We thank you all sincerely for your support and prayers.”

Prayers were said at local masses for Daniel over the weekend while get well wishes flowed in from across the county including Ardara GAA Club of which Daniel is a member.
