Emergency services are continuing to work to clear roads and restore power to homes and businesses across Donegal following Storm Isha.

The powerful storm, as forecasted, lashed the county from around 9pm last night. As a result, trees were toppled and roads blocked in all areas as well as leaving thousands of homes and businesses without power. Substantial damage was also caused to property with reports of roofs being ripped off sheds, outbuildings and other structural damage.

Road users are urged to proceed with care and not to approach fallen trees or powerlines.

Meanwhile, a fresh Status Yellow wind warning has come into place along the west coast for counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

The warning remains in effect until 7pm, with Met Éireann warning that “very strong” gusts may lead to difficult travelling conditions.

The forecaster has said that large coastal waves with wave overtopping are expected, and that people should be wary of debris and loose objects being displaced.

Met Éireann has said that today will be breezy and blustery, with “very strong” gusts in the west and northwest.

There will be scattered showers of which some will be heavy, with a chance of hail. Highs of 6C to 9C are forecast.

Later tonight it will be dry with just isolated showers.
