Small community groups and organisations in Donegal are being encouraged to apply for capital funding under the Local Enhancement Programme 2024.

Donegal Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) are now accepting applications for grant funding ranging from €1,000 to €10,000.

With a national fund of €6m, the programme will provide capital supports essential for many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged areas in rural and urban areas.

Donegal LCDC have been allocated €210,000 capital funding for the Local Enhancement Programme with €43,129.48 capital funding ring-fenced for Women’s Groups. Women’s Groups can apply for both funds.

The Local Enhancement Programme 2024 is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

The scheme is designed to ensure local priorities are identified and met, so as to improve and enhance community facilities for all. The funding will provide capital supports essential for the many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged areas in rural and urban areas. There will be a particular focus on small capital works/improvements, and the purchase of equipment for community use. There will also be a specific allocation to support Women’s groups in the county.

Cllr. Niamh Kennedy, Chairperson of the Donegal LCDC welcomed the allocation and its potential to support local community and Voluntary groups: “as Chairperson of the Donegal LCDC, I welcome the allocation of the Local Enhancement Programme funds for the County. I believe the focus on small capital works, repairs and improvements as well as the purchase of equipment can improve access to our many community facilities, help disadvantaged and marginalised groups as well as supporting important issues such as improving energy efficiency and reducing ongoing costs. I also especially welcome the allocation of specific capital funds towards women’s groups in the county”.
