Donegal Gardaí will be conducting high visibility checkpoints and speed checks all over the county this Bank Holiday weekend.
Bank Holidays are one of the busiest periods on our roads. They are also one of the periods where road users are at the highest risk of being involved in a fatal or serious road traffic collision.
The garda operation will take effect from 7am Thursday, February 1, until 7am Tuesday 6th.
“We wish to issue our usual road safety appeal to all road users ahead of the upcoming St. Brigid’s Bank Holiday weekend,” Garda Clare Rafferty said.
She also urged all road users to please use the roads responsibly. Drivers are urged to slow down, wear their seatbelt, and not to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Do not use/hold your mobile phone while driving.
“Remember, if you have been drinking you may not be safe to drive the morning after. Don’t risk it,” added Garda Rafferty.
“Always be on the look-out for cyclists and pedestrians and drive at a safe speed. We hope that everybody has a safe and enjoyable weekend.”
