Power outages in some areas as wind warning comes into effect

A number of power outages have been reported in Donegal this morning as a moderate winding warning comes into effect.

Currently, a small number of homes and businesses in the Dungloe and Bundoran areas are without electricity.

Met Éireann is forecasting strong and gusty southwest winds which could result in wave overtopping in coastal areas.

The Yellow alert came into effect from 8am and is valid to 1pm and also includes Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

Meanwhile, it will be breezy today and turning very windy for a time in the west of Ulster.

It will be mostly dry at first with some bright spells developing but breezy with fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds. Turning cloudier as a band of rain moves into the west towards mid-morning, bringing stronger winds for a time. The rain will track southeastwards, heavy at times, clearing from the province by late afternoon. It will be followed by drier, clearer and cold conditions as winds will generally ease westerly but will remain fresh in the north and west. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.

Tonight will be dry with long clear spells and mostly light to moderate westerly breezes, fresher for a time in the north with the odd shower possible there. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees with some frost and ice possible.

It will be dry and chilly tomorrow morning with hazy sunshine. Cloud will increase from the west through the afternoon with patches of light rain or drizzle following, mainly over the western half of the province. Highest afternoon temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees with mostly moderate southwest winds developing, increasing fresh in the west through the afternoon.
