Donegal County Council is set to install new safety measures to reduce risks at the Keelogs junction in Churchill.
Several accidents were reported at the busy junction between James Doherty Coaches and Churchill Quarries over Christmas.
Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly brought community concerns before the council and in 2021 he called for crash barriers to be installed.
While there is no funding for barriers at the junction, Donegal County Council is now set to create a raised safety embankment and install safety signage on both the entrance and exit of the corners leading in and out of this junction.
A road assessment on the camber and the surface of the road is also going to be carried out and measures will be taken to address this going forward when Restoration Improvement funding is allocated.
Cllr Kelly issued his thanks to council roads staff who met with him at the site.
“These safety measures are very welcome,” Cllr Kelly said.
“This junction has seen several accidents over the last number of years. It is a very busy junction that is also a lift and drop off point for local school children.
“I have been pushing for safety measures to be implemented at this junction for a long time now after being approached and contacted by numerous concerned local parents and road users.”
