The grand total raised at the North West Breast Cancer Ball 2023 has been revealed as €15,081.

The glamorous event at the Silver Tassie Hotel last December was an overwhelming success after being sold-out many weeks in advance.

Funds raised will support research at Breast Centre North West in Letterkenny, enhance patient comfort at the clinic, and contribute to community care initiatives, including an outreach programme for those recovering from breast cancer.

The 2023 Ball surpassed all expectations, the organising committee has said in a heartfelt thank you message to all supporters.

“Breast cancer has left its mark on the lives of nearly everyone, and as a small committee, our aim is to make a positive impact on those affected by this challenging journey. None of our efforts would have been possible without the extraordinary generosity of numerous individuals,” a spokesperson said.

“The committee is extremely touched by the incredible kindness and goodwill we have encountered from the early planning stages to the end result.”

Special guest speaker on the night was Ciara Doherty, presenter of The Tonight Show on Virgin Media, and a native of Letterkenny. Despite her demanding schedule and with a young family at home, Ciara, accompanied by her mother Kate, graciously took the time to join the event.

She was compassionate and articulate and entertained guests throughout the evening.

Renowned consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon Mr. Peter Barry, was the esteemed medical guest. Mr Barry shared valuable insights about breast cancer and generously praised Breast Centre North West.

“We hope to have him back in Letterkenny soon as promised,” organisers said.

Live music, an engaging auction, and a delicious gourmet meal by The Silver Tassie Hotel contributed to the festive atmosphere. Noel Cunningham expertly served as the MC, ensuring the event ran smoothly. The committee acknowledged the tireless work of numerous individuals, including social diarist Gabrielle Mc Monagle, media representatives, public officials, and countless local businesses who donated prizes and supported the event.

The committee said: “In its 13th year, the Ball continues to set the bar higher, with guests dancing the night away to the extraordinary talents of the band Red Alert, creating an electric atmosphere. Whether you are considering having a family/group gathering next year or planning a Christmas staff party, we encourage you to mark your calendars for the 2024 Ball.

“Save the date – Friday 6th of December 2024. You won’t be disappointed. It truly is a community effort and the 2023 Ball deserves a standing ovation for everyone involved. Thank you.”
