Deep pothole in Falcarragh sparks urgent demand for repairs

Serious concerns have been raised over the state of the main road in Falcarragh following water works.

A deep hole has appeared following a recent water mains burst on the N56 before Falcarragh Primary School.

The hole was reinstated after repairs were carried out. However, this week a number of motorists have reported damaged tyres after hitting the dip.

Glenties Cathaoirleach Michael McClafferty is calling on Uisce Eireann to reinstate the hole again and ensure that the road is finished to a high standard.

“My problem is that the reinstatement was not up to scratch,” Cllr McClafferty claimed.

“It’s very dangerous. Tyres have been lost there in the last number of days, it has the potential to bust a vehicle’s spring and if you were a cyclist or a motorcyclist there is a risk you wouldn’t realise it’s there. I am concerned that strangers travelling in the dark could crash into it before they realise.”

Cllr McClafferty said he has raised the issue with Uisce Eireann and has called on the company to ensure those who are undertaking the work will “measure twice and cut once”.

“I have told them this is totally unacceptable,” Cllr McClafferty said.

The councillor is set to raise the matter with Uisce Eireann at their next quarterly meeting and at the upcoming meeting of the Glenties MD next Tuesday.
