Met Eireann has brought forward a snow alert for Donegal tomorrow as the wintry conditions return.
A status yellow alert will now take effect in Donegal from 5am until 8pm on Thursday.
Snow and sleet showers are likely, with the most significant accumulations on higher ground.
Motorists are warned to expect hazardous driving conditions, travel disruption and poor visibility.
Tonight will be freezing with lows of -3C and temperatures will stay ‘very cold’ on Thursday.
The forecast warns that Thursday will begin cloudy and breezy with wintry outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow moving up across the region.
“Moderate accumulations are likely,” Met Eireann reports. “Wintry outbreaks will persist for the day. Very cold with an added wind chill factor owing to a biting easterly winds. Highest temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees.”
The outlook for the weekend is: “Cold with showery outbreaks of rain. Frost and icy stretches under clear skies.”
