Donegal folk/singer-songwriting duo, Without Willow, tonight release their stunning new debut album ‘Left Behind’.
It follows their well received single ‘Lay Down Your Troubles’ which was released last month and coincides with a launch gig at the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC) in Letterkenny tonight at 8pm.
Karen Kelly and Simon McCafferty make up Without Willow and are already making waves in the music scene.
Poignantly, the new album features the late, great Ted Ponsonby from Letterkenny, whose distinctive dobro playing leaves an indelible mark on their music.
Tragically, Ted passed away suddenly in September 2023, never having the opportunity to hear the finished article, although he had also contributed to Without Willow’s first EP released in 2017.
The band has opened for renowned artists such as Mick Flannery, Moya Brennan, and Declan O’Rourke. Their 2019 and 2022 sold-out headline shows in Germany and Canada showcased the duo’s exceptional talent and global appeal.
Karen, a former qualified nurse, contributes haunting, heartfelt vocals that intertwine seamlessly with Simon’s artistic vision. Simon, a graphic design student and virtuoso guitar player, infuses passion and skill into emotive melodies, creating a sound as diverse as their backgrounds. The pair’s synergy produces a poignant exploration of the human experience.
Without Willow performed at the Your Roots are Showing Folk conference in Dundalk last month. Tickets for the much-anticipated album launch gig at the Regional Cultural Centre tonight are still on sale.
Don’t miss the chance to witness Without Willow’s enrapturing performance as they share their heartfelt music and unforgettable stories with audiences worldwide.
