Landmark Gaoth Dobhair hotels to ‘100% reopen for tourism’

The company behind the €15 million refurbishment of the famous Seaview and Óstán Ghaoth Dobhair hotels stressed they both will ‘100%’ reopen as tourism ventures.

Vesada Private Ltd has already started work on the redevelopment of the Seaview which is planned to return as a hotel venue.

Meanwhile, the same company yesterday submitted ambitious plans to Donegal County Council for the landmark Óstán Ghaoth Dobhair. The proposed development will include a 250 seater wedding venue/ballroom on the roof of the current hotel. Eighty new bedrooms will also be constructed where the old ballroom was located and a new spa will be added.

A spokesman for Vesada said work would begin within nine months of planning permission being granted and that construction would take up to a year.

He also stressed the hotel would be reopened as a tourist and wedding venue, and not as an International Protection Centre for accommodating refugees and asylum seekers.

“We will definitely not be building a new 250 seater wedding venue and spa in order to accommodate International Protection Applicants,” the spokesman stressed.

“Both hotels will be 100% reopened as tourism and wedding reception ventures.”
