Pupils at St Baithin’s NS in St Johnston got rewarded for their hard work creating recyclable projects at a special ceremony at the school this week.

Students from Junior Infants up to 6th class took part in a resuse scheme, where they got to work creating new purposes for donated recyclable materials that otherwise might have gone to waste.

Tasked with making creations with things such as coffee filters, plastic tubes and CDs, the kids got to work on crafting some very nifty pieces!

The students then voted on their favourites, with plenty of fun prizes to be handed out for the winners.

Seosaimh O Reilly won first prize with a brilliant froggy creation.

Second prize went to Molly, Emily and Ronan Toland for their save our turtles displays and robot.

Joint third place winners were Honour and Faith Thompson’s save our bees display, and Charlie Browne’s recreation of the Grinch.

Fourth place went to Amelia Boyce after she crafted a waistcoat made from coffee sacks.

The school is aiming to get its seventh green flag this year.

Community Garda Catherine Callaghan was also on hand to give out the prizes, which were kindly donated by a number of local businesses.
