The leaving of Galway! Beloved teacher Síle retires

There were tears but many happy memories at Scoil Cholmcille, Kilmacrennan recently as the school bid farewell to one of its most loved and respected teachers, Ms Síle Galway.

Síle retired after spending over 20 years educating the pupils of the area.

Colleagues said that as a teacher she was kind, caring, innovative and always child centred.

As a colleague she was helpful, generous, lighthearted and honest.

A proud daughter of Gaoth Dobhair, Síle spent periods of her teaching career in the Rosses, Fanad and Inishowen.

From there she moved on to Termon, Portlean and Drummond before finally finding her pedagogical forever home in Kilmacrennan. She was one of the old guard of teachers and staff who moved across the road to the new school building in 2008.

Síle spent most of her time in Scoil Cholmcille in learning support but moved to Solas a hAon, one of the classrooms for children with additional needs, for the last five years of her time teaching.

This was arguably her happiest time at the school and the professionalism, dedication and love she gave to the last years of her teaching career epitomised Síle.

A spokesperson for the school said “Although she will be greatly missed by the staff and children of Kilmacrennan National School, we wish for herself, her husband Séan and her two sons, Peadar and Seághan, nothing but happiness and good health in the years ahead.”
