Call for extra signage to warn motorists of sharp junction

Donegal County Council has been urged to install warning signage at the Rahan / Lisjack junction outside Letterkenny following a recent crash.

The junction lies on the road from Letterkenny to Drumkeen, which is often taken as a back road.

During the wintry weather in January, a car slid off the road and ploughed into a field.

Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said upgraded safety measures are needed to avoid any further accidents.

“There is a sign there saying there is a junction ahead but a few reflective chevrons from the Drumkeen side would help strangers coming down,” Cllr Kelly told today’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

“It has been brought to my attention that anyone using Google Maps is being sent on this road as a quicker alternative to Lurgybrack.”

“Speed is a factor, there is no doubt about it, but that corner does come on you fairly quickly,” Cllr Kelly added.

The local authority responded to say that a safety assessment will be carried out at this location to establish if measures are required.

“Restoration Improvement and Maintenance projects have been prioritised for this area and any possible improvements can be considered as part of these works,” a spokesperson said.
