Rathmullan native Goretti Sheridan is to be appointed as Donegal’s new Garda Chief Superintendent.
The long-serving Garda is currently a Garda Superintendent serving out of Letterkenny Garda Station.
However, it is expected that she will be officially announced as Donegal’s top Garda in the coming days.
The county has been without a local Chief Superintendent since the departure of former Chief Superintendent Terry McGinn in December 2022.
She was replaced by Chief Superintendent Aidan Glackin who was based in Co Sligo and who overseen three different counties.
There had been plans to amalgamate the Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim divisions with Chief Superintendent Glackin overseeing all three.
However, after much lobbying, a decision was made to leave Donegal as a ‘stand alone’ Garda division.
Donegal Daily revealed earlier this week how the appointment of a new Chief Superintendent was “imminent.”
Superintendent Sheridan comes to the role with a wealth of experience having served at a number of Garda districts including Dublin, Sligo, Buncrana and Castlerea.
She joined An Garda Siochana in 1993 and was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2013.
Superintendent Sheridan also holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) focused in Criminology from Dublin Institute of Technology.
She is the daughter of Claire and the late Patsy Sheridan.
