There was relief in Rathmullan yesterday after a pod of dolphins found deeper water and avoided being stranded.

Crowds of people watched all day as the dolphins came very close to the shoreline.

Onlookers watched as the dolphins swam back and forth for a number of hours.

However, the enjoyment turned to concern for some amidst fears that the dolphins may become stranded.

Some locals contacted the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group alerting them that the dolphins were swimming in very shallow waters.

However, fears were averted after the dolphins found deeper water as they swam out into the deeper channel of Lough Swilly.
