Sinn Fein have announced their two candidates for the upcoming European elections in the Midlands North-West constituency.

Current MEP Chris MacManus, and Michelle Gildernew MP will be on the European ballot for the party in June.

Their candidcacies were confirmed at a party event today in Cavan.

In a statement, MEP McManus said:

“It is a great honour to have been nominated and selected to contest the European Parliament elections in the Midlands North-West Constituency.”

“Serving the last four years as an MEP for the people of the Midlands, North-West has been the honour of my life and I humbled to have been selected to run for another term.”

“There will be a number of issues on the ballot paper this June, among them will be Climate Change, Workers Rights, the future our rural, agricultural and fishing communities.”

“I want to be an MEP for the Midlands North-West Constituency who stands up for disenfranchised, the marginalised and for those that both the EU and Irish government have left behind.”

“The European and local elections, which both take place on the same day in June, bring a significant opportunity to deliver the change that workers and families so desperately need. I look forward to working alongside Michelle Gildernew in delivering that change for the people of Midlands North-West.”

Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald said:

“Chris MacManus and Michelle Gildernew are two great candidates for Midlands North West, with strong records of standing up for workers and families.

“The people of Midlands North West can be certain as Sinn Féin MEPs they will fight your corner and stand up for you in the European Parliament. They will move heaven and earth to make sure your voice is heard. They will lead from the front, and they will get the work done.”
