Donegal Gardaí have issued a fresh warning to members of the public about a ‘garda fine’ text scam that is doing the rounds.
A garda spokesman said the text is ‘cleverly designed’ to cause a sense of panic in the recipient and they do not want anybody to fall victim to it.
“The text message is in relation to a supposed garda fine and it contains a link to follow in order to pay said fine,” said Garda Sean Sweeney of Buncrana Garda Station.
“Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) from the Gardaí are managed by our processing office in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. We will never contact a person via text message in relation to a fine (FCPN). Should you receive this type of text message, we ask you not to panic, do not click on the link and simply delete the message. If you have fallen victim to this scam, then please alert Gardaí.”
