Relief for Donegal motorists as work to resume on Enniskillen Bypass

There was good news for Donegal motorists this week with confirmation that work is to resume on the long awaited A4 Enniskillen Bypass.

On Monday night, Northern Ireland’s Minister for Finance, Caoimhe Archibald, allocated more than £16 million to help with the development of the project.

The Fermanagh town is a popular route for Donegal motorists, particularly those from the south of the county, travelling to and from Dublin and Belfast.

Preparation work began on the project in early 2022, however, it soon stalled due to a lack of funding.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA, Jemma Dolan, said the latest confirmation will be ‘hugely positive news’.

“Construction of this bypass will be crucial in making our roads safer, cutting journey times and emissions and improving connections between the A4 Dublin road and the A4 Sligo road, in Enniskillen,” she said.

“It will also be a huge economic driver for Enniskillen and crucial to helping unlock this area’s full potential.

“This is hugely positive news. I will continue to work with the infrastructure minister to see the timely completion of this project.”
