The most popular baby names in Donegal have been revealed – with three new names in the top spot!

The most popular baby boy’s name in Donegal was Jack last year.

Grace and Annie both claimed the top spot for newborn girls in Donegal.

They are reflective of the national trends, with Jack and Grace being the top names across the country.

Jack is Ireland’s most popular boys’ name for the seventh year in a row. While Grace replaces last year’s top choice of Emily. Grace last claimed the top spot in 2020.

In the previous year in Donegal, Charlie and Noah were the most popular names for boys and Emily for girls.

The CSO reports Caelan, Jude, Paddy, Éanna, and Dáithí as the five new entrants into the top 100 boys’ names for 2023. Looking at new entrants for girls, three new entrants appeared, which were Lucia, Cadhla, and Síofra, with Síofra rising up the rankings the fastest, going from 157th place in 2022 to 100th in 2023.

For Irish Babies’ Names 2023, the CSO has expanded its surname analysis to provide a further breakdown of the most common surnames associated with babies born in 2023. Murphy, Kelly, O’Brien, Ryan, and Walsh were the most common surnames for 2023 births.
