A village in West Donegal has asked all political parties to refrain from putting up election posters this year.

A group representing the village of Doochary has made the request ahead of the local elections this June.

The Doochary Development Group made the submission to all political groups who are running candidates in the Glenties area.

“We the Committee of Cumann Forbartha – Na Dúchoraidh, Doochary Development Group-Tidy Towns are asking all political parties and organisations to refrain from posting any election posters and/or materials for the upcoming Donegal County Council elections within the Village area.”

“The parameters of our work with Tidy Towns runs from Owenamarve on the Dungloe/Doochary Road, the R254 from the Village to Clerkins Shop, the R254 from the village to Glendowan and the road from Doochary to Fintown.”

“We maintain this area and are asking that you please acquiesce to our wishes. We support you all and if there is any way we can help, please do not hesitate to ask, as we appreciate all the Glenties Councillors support for our wee village over the last few years. We wish you all the best on your hustings and hope for dry and sunny skies.”
