Man accused of murdering Danielle Mc Laughlin ‘too sick’ to attend wedding

The man on trial for murdering Buncrana woman Danielle Mc Laughlin was allegedly too ill to take interim bail granted to him last weekend.

Vikat Bhagat was granted temporary bail to attend his sister’s wedding. However, on the day of the family celebration, it’s reported he was too sick to leave jail.

The court’s decision to allow bail brought shock and anger to the family of the late Danielle Mc Laughlin. They have been waiting seven years for justice.

They said that Bhagat’s inability to attend the wedding was a source of relief, as they feared he could abscond.

“We are so relieved he is still in prison where he cannot escape or hurt anyone else,” they said.

Bhagat stands accused of the rape and murder of backpacker Danielle, who was aged 28 at the time, in Goa on March 14, 2017.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
