A motorcyclist has been arrested today after being caught speeding at 176kph – almost twice the limit – in the Letterkenny area.

Gardaí with the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit made the detection before arresting the driver and charging them to appear in court at a later date.

It’s the second high-speed related arrest by the unit today.

This morning, another motorist was clocked doing 167kph on the N13 in Inishowen, which is a 100kph zone.

A garda spokesperson said: “Save lives by slowing down. Please don’t ever be reckless when it comes to road safety.”
