Glenties community activist Brian Carr has been selected as a Sinn Féin candidate for the local elections in June.

Brian joins sitting councillor John Sheamuis Ó Fearraigh on the party ticket for the Glenties MD, with a third candidate to be confirmed in due course.

Brian previously ran for election as an independent in 2014 and for Sinn Féin in 2019.

Speaking at the selection event yesterday evening, Deputy Pearse Doherty said: “Brian and John are two candidates that we know very well.

“We know these are two candidates who will not be scared to roll-up their sleeves to get work done.

“They are steeped in their local communities and will make terrific representatives for the Glenties LEA.

“They will also be joined by a third candidate in this area and together this will represent a very strong Sinn Féin team going forward to contest the local elections in June.

“I also want to take the time to speak about out-going councillor Marie Therese Gallagher. Marie Therese is Sinn Féin’s longest serving County Councillor ever in the county and her dedication to the party and her community over that time has been incredible.”
