Wintry weather is on the way tonight and this weekend, as Met Eireann forecasts very cold conditions.

There is a chance of snow, hail and sleet on high ground tonight. Temperatures are set to drop to lows of -1 to +2 degrees.

No weather warnings have been issued nationally yet.

Friday is set to be “very cold” with a mix of rain, sleet and snow in the morning. Temperatures will go no higher than 5C during the day, dropping again to -1 lows at night.

The forecast says: “Friday night will be cold night with a mix of clear spells and wintry showers of rain, hail and sleet with some snow on hills and mountains. Some frost and icy patches are possible.”

Similar conditions are forecast for Saturday and Sunday, where more hail and sleet is likely in mountaineous areas.
