Arranmore community rallies around Ukrainian woman after sudden illness

The community of Arranmore Island has come together to support a local Ukrainian woman who fell ill while visiting her son in Mexico.

Natalia Zimevska and her husband Olek moved to Arranmore from war-torn Ukraine last year to be with their daughter Yuliia and her family.

They have become beloved members of the community and are a great asset to the island.

Natalia’s son Roman fled to Mexico when the war began, and he sent airline tickets to his parents to visit him in mid-January. However, Natalia’s trip took a tragic turn when she suffered a brain haemorrhage. While the surgery was successful, she now requires extensive post-operative care before she can return home to Arranmore.

Unfortunately, Natalia was not insured and is facing mounting medical bills that her family cannot afford. To help, the Arranmore community has launched a fundraising campaign on iDonate.

Despite their recent challenges, the family and friends have already raised €25,000, but they need additional support to cover the remaining costs.

Local resident John Mc Cafferty is appealing to the public for their help: “Your contribution can make a meaningful difference in aiding Natalia’s recovery and covering her medical expenses. Please consider donating to support this cause and share her story to help spread awareness. Together, we can provide the financial assistance needed for Natalia’s medical bills and wish her a speedy and full recovery.”
