A small Donegal National School has been ranked among the top ten in Ireland when it comes to building robots.

Scoil an tSratha Mhóir (Stramore), Glendowan, near Churchill, came an impressive ninth this week in the Vex Robotics All Ireland Championship in Cork. The team also won the Sportsmanship Award on the day.

Back in January, they won the Northwest VEX Robotics event for the second year in a row in Letterkenny ATU. Last year, the progressive school went on to compete in the World Robotics Championships in the US.

The current team (main pic) is made up of Ciara McDaid, Lily Gallagher, Harry Callaghan, Aidan Duddy, Shane McCormack and Katie Duddy along with their 5th & 6th class group as well as leaders, Maedhbh McBride and Francie Friel.

The unique competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, provides primary and secondary school students with exciting, open-ended robotics challenges that enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centred learning.
