The Malin Head Coast Guard Centre was tasked to help rescue an ill fisherman off the coast of County Mayo yesterday afternoon.

Coordinators at the Malin Head centre, along with colleagues from the UK Coastguard, coordinated the medevac. The Rescue 118 helicopter was deployed to rescue a seriously ill fisherman, on a German-registered fishing vessel that was 111 miles off the Irish coast.

Rescue 116 was also tasked to shadow the R118 crew to assist with the medical evacuation.

The injured man was successfully transferred to Sligo for medical treatment by the R118 crew.
