Planning permission has been granted for a 21-bedroom residential hostel in Buncrana.
Planners gave John and Martin McKinney the go-ahead for the development at Cockhill Road, Ballymacarry.
It will consist of the construction of a new two-storey hostel with a mixture of nine single rooms, six double rooms and two family suites (each containing one double room and two single rooms). The development will also include a reception area, dining area, two kitchenettes and lounge and a laundry room.
There were two submissions in relation to the development. One had a ‘fear’ over the hostel becoming a permanent residence for asylum seekers or refugees. While stating they had ‘no issue with’ International Protection Applicants (IPAs), they felt it would not add to the tourism needs of the area.
