Milford Garda Station will not be downgraded – Garda Chief Superintendent

Donegal’s new Garda Chief Superintendent has given reassurances that Milford Garda Station will not be downgraded from being a 24 hour station.

Concerns were expressed over the future of the station at the latest Joint Policing Committee meeting.

Committee member and former Garda Sergeant James Trearty said there was genuine concern locally about the lack of manpower saying it had been “run into the road with regard to manpower”

He referred to a number of Garda stations including Churchill and Doochary which have been sold on.

And he cited villages like Kerrykeel, Annagry, Ramelton, Rathmullan, Carrigart and Burtonport which he said had virtually no manpower.

“That’s a vast track of area and I would be very concerned and I would like for this committee to be informed if there are plans to close Milford Garda Station.”

However, in her direct response, Garda Chief Superintendent Goretti Sheridan said that there are no plans to close Milford Garda Station or downgrade it from being a 24 hour station.

She said “Milford Garda Station will never close. It is a 24 hour station …..and Milford Garda Station will remain a 24 hour station.”
