A Letterkenny pedestrian who was killed in a serious collision this morning has been named locally.

Ciarán Mc Art, aged in his 30s, was fatally injured when he was struck by a lorry on the Letterkenny – Ramelton road early this morning.

He is the second person to lose their life on the roads in Donegal this year.

Ciarán is the much-loved son of Adrian and Karen Mc Art, brother of Ultan and sister Fionnuala.

His Funeral Mass will take place on Sunday the 17th in St. Eunan’s Cathedral at 1:30pm followed by burial in Conwal Cemetery. The obituary notice requests that the house be private please to family and close friends.

Ciarán will be dearly missed by his loving mother, father, sister, brother, nephews and niece, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu to the Irish Cancer Society c/o Jim Mc Glynn Funeral Director, Glencar, Letterkenny or any family member.

The R245 Letterkenny – Ramelton road reopened to traffic earlier this evening following a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R245 at Magheranan in Letterkenny between the hours of 5am and 6am this morning are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda station on 074 916 7100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
