Frustration over ‘deplorable state’ of main Manor-Lifford road

A Donegal County Councillor has raised his frustration over the lack of funding for a badly worn section of the N 14 road.

Cllr Donal Coyle is calling for urgent resurfacing works on Manor-Lifford road, between Mondooey and the turn off for Galdonagh.

“This is a national primary road and the main artery from Letterkenny and the north west to Dublin and it’s in a very bad state of repair. The sides of the road are falling in,” Cllr Coyle told the March sitting of the Letterkenny-Milford MD.

“The whole surface of the road is absolutely riddled with holes,” he said. “The top layer has lifted off in many places and it’s in a terrible state.”

Cllr Coyle acknowledged that the road is the responsibility of the TII but said that he has raised it numerous times and that nothing has been done.

A spokesperson for Donegal County Council said that this section of road has been continuously raised with the TII, and until funding is provided for a larger job, short-term arrangements are being made to carry out pothole
repairs.

Cllr Coyle was also informed that a Roads Safety Engineer is currently carrying out an assessment of this location
