Prime Time viewers question podcaster’s ‘moving to Donegal’ comment

A well-known podcaster’s comments on ‘moving to Donegal’ on last night’s RTE Prime Time has sparked anger on social media.

Dublin-native Keelin Moncrieff appeared on the current affairs programme to discuss how she’s been trying her best to buy her own home. However, she’s started to realise her only option is to buy miles away from her family who are based in the capital.

Speaking to Sarah McInerney, she said: “I’m also someone who makes a substantial salary for my age, so it’s nothing to do with my spending I’m saving and I can get approved for a mortgage.

“But I cannot afford to live anywhere I grew up, or anywhere around my family. So actually me moving home in the first place was probably futile because I’m going to have to move up to Donegal.”

However, some viewers tuning in thought she should be grateful for even being able to consider owning a property in Donegal.

One person asked if she really needed to ‘diss’ the county, while another said Donegal should ‘lock your borders’.

Some also defended her, saying she was just trying to demonstrate the difficulty she has finding a suitable home in Dublin.
