Donegal gets ready to Spring into Storytime for 2024

Throughout the month of April Donegal County Library Service will deliver an exciting programme of events aimed at children aged 0-10 and their families.

The Donegal library service says it is delighted that you will be able to join them virtually and physically in the libraries for Spring into Storytime 2024 with author visits, cartoon workshops, crafting events, an Irish language crossword competition, singing and dancing workshops and lots more.

There will also be author readings online for national schools and playgroups.

Studies show that young children whose parents read to them daily have been exposed to at least 290,000 more words by the time they enter pre-school than children who aren’t read to regularly. And depending on how much daily reading time children get, that number can go up to over a million words.

Regularly reading to a child for the love of it provides a connection between parent and child from the very early days and helps build strong family ties.

Families who enjoy reading together have more opportunities for discussion, developing empathy and attachment.  Children who read for pleasure do better in a wide range of subjects at school and it also positively impacts children’s wellbeing.

The information and schedule for all the events can be found on our library website www.donegallibrary.ie ‘What’s on’  or you can follow Donegal County Library on Facebook & Twitter.

We have tips and advice to help parents and guardians develop their child’s love of reading. For more information on these support services and much more please see the Love Books section on our website available at the following;

Léim Isteach san Am Scéalaíochta 2024

Le linn mhí Aibreáin beidh clár spreagúil imeachtaí do pháistí aois 0-10 agus dá dteaghlaigh á chur ar fáil ag Seirbhís Leabharlainne Chontae Dhún na nGall.

Tá lúcháir orainn go mbeidh sibh ábalta a bheith linn go fíorúil agus ar an láthair sna leabharlanna do Léim Isteach san Am Scéalaíochta 2024 le cuairteoirí ó údair, ceardlanna cartúin, imeachtaí ceardaíochta, comórtas crosfhocail as Gaeilge, ceardlanna amhránaíochta agus damhsa agus go leor leor eile. Beidh seisiúin léitheoireachta le húdair againn ar líne chomh maith do bhunscoileanna agus do ghrúpaí spraoi.

Léirítear sa taighde mbíonn ar a laghad 290,000 níos mó focal cloiste ag páistí a mbíonn a dtuismitheoirí ag léamh leo gach lá faoin am a dtéann siad isteach sa naíonra i gcomparáid le páistí nach léitear dóibh go minic. Ag brath ar an mhéid léitheoireachta a dhéantar leis na páistí, d’fhéadfadh milliún focal a bheith i gceist leis an fhigiúr sin.

Cuireann sé go mór leis an cheangal idir an tuismitheoir agus an páiste agus le ceangail láidre teaghlaigh a thógáil má léitear do pháistí go minic ar mhaithe le spraoi. Bíonn níos mó deiseanna ag teaghlaigh a bhíonn ag léamh le chéile plé a dhéanamh agus comhbhá agus ceangal eatarthu féin a fhorbairt. Éiríonn níos fearr le páistí a bhíonn ag léamh ar mhaithe le spraoi i réimse leathan ábhar scoile agus bíonn dea-thionchar aige ar fholláine an pháiste.

Is féidir teacht ar eolas agus ar sceideal na n-imeachtaí ar fad ar ár suíomh gréasáin www.donegallibrary.ie/ie ‘Imeachtaí’  nó is féidir leat Leabharlann Chontae Dhún na nGall a leanúint ar Facebook & Twitter.

Tá comhairle agus leideanna againn le cuidiú le tuismitheoirí agus le caomhnóirí suim sa léitheoireacht a chothú ina gcuid páistí. Le tuilleadh eolais a fháil faoi na seirbhísí tacaíochta seo, amharc ar an mhír ‘Leabhair’ dár suíomh gréasáin anseo
