Smiling Raphoe woman Una and her girls remembered in happier times

This is a smiling Una Carlin-Bowden pictured along with daughters Ciara and Saoirse who were killed in yesterday’s horrific road crash in Co Mayo.

Una’s family, who hail from Raphoe, kindly gave permission for the media to use the picture.

Una and her two daughters, aged just 9 and 14, were killed on the N17.

The family had lived in Moycullen, west of Galway city, for a number of years after buying a cottage there in 2019.

They had since undertaken major renovation and extension work at the property, and finally moved in just last week.

Tributes from friends across Galway and Donegal are pouring in following the unspeakable tragedy.

Una’s husband David Bowden is returning from abroad where he was told about the loss of his wife and daughters while working overseas.

He frequently travelled to his native Africa for his work as a project manager with the United Nations, while both he and Una also ran a safari business, providing tours of national parks in Zambia to tourists.

Una is well-known in the Raphoe area where she attended the Royal and Prior Secondary School.
