A teenage boy has died in County Mayo after being struck by a car.

Gardaí say the 17 year old boy was struck by a vehicle last night on the N17, in the Barnacarroll area.

The stretch of road where the incident took place is adjacent to the area where Donegal-born Una Bowden and her two daughters, Ciara and Saoirse, were killed in an accident with an articulated lorry earlier this week.

The road has been closed off this morning, with diversions in place as Gardaí continue their enquiries.
