Donegal Gardai have issued an appeal after a spike in hit-and-run incidents of cars parked in shopping centres and retail parks around the county.
Local Gardai say there have been a rise in the number of cases of cars being damaged.
A number of motorists have reported coming back to their vehicles to find them damaged.
Gardai have warned anybody involved in such a collision that they MUST report the matter to Gardai.
They have also appealed to anybody who may witness such an incident to get a car registration number and to contact them.
A Garda spokesperson said “We have noticed an increase in the amount of reports being made in relation to hit and run incidents in shopping/retail carparks.
“We would like to remind all drivers of their obligation to report all such incidents to Gardaí eg: in the event that they have caused damage to another vehicle.
“Should anybody witness a hit and run incident, we urge them to take note of the registration number of the vehicles in question and to pass all of the details on to Gardaí even if they themselves were not directly involved.
“Should anybody capture a hit and run collision on dash cam footage we ask them to make the footage available to Gardaí.
“All reports in relation to these type of hit and run collisions are fully investigated and Gardaí actively seek all available CCTV and witnesses in relation to them.”
