A Donegal county councillor has appealed to dog owners to keep their dogs under control at a local park in Buncrana.

Councillor Jack Murray raised the issue following a number of incidents at Swan Park.

In one incident a child was knocked off its bike by a dog which was running loose.

Councillor Murray said the issue of dog fouling in the park also needs to be addressed.

A number of issues at the park are due to be issued at an upcoming meeting of the council.

Councillor Murray said “I’ve once again been contacted regarding an incident with a dog in Swan Park. This time a child was knocked off his bike – obviously a very scary thing to happen any kid.

“Dog fouling also remains an issue which is regularly flagged as a concern for people.

“This will need to be addressed by the council going forward but in the meantime, I’d ask anyone who is walking their dog in the park, to keep it on a lead and pick up your dog foul afterwards.

“Swan Park is an idyllic location and the perfect place to walk a dog. That can always be the case but taking simple steps will ensure that it continues to be enjoyed by everyone.”
