A memorable competition awaits at Páirc Éimeád in Castlefinn tonight as friends from home and away gather to honour the memory of Marsha Mc Connell.
Marsha, whose legacy intertwines with both Clan na Gael in Sydney and Robert Emmets, sadly passed in July 2020 along with her unborn daughter Bella.
Marsha’s life and contributions to local sports and community remain deeply cherished.
This Friday evening she will be honoured in a memorial match as Clan na Gael alumni take on Robert Emmets from 6.30pm to 10pm, culminating in an evening of music, dance, and shared memories at McBride’s Bar. All proceeds from this special event will be donated to charity.
Marsha McConnell was not only a pioneering force in ladies football in Donegal but also a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend whose inspiration reached beyond the pitch. The passing of Marsha and baby Bella left a void in the hearts of many, including her husband Rory, son Noah, and the wider community.
Marsha was a key player in the formation of the first Robert Emmets senior ladies team and was rewarded with a call-up to the Donegal ladies in 2008.
In 2009, Marsha went travelling to New Zealand and eventually took residence in Australia where she got back to playing football for Clan Na Gael. Her return home was marked by Emmets ladies winning their first title in the junior B championship in 2015.
She donned both the Clan na Gael and Robert Emmets jerseys with equal pride, and a heartfelt night awaits remembering a woman who was the life and soul of the teams she played in.
