A Letterkenny student has been awarded the Optum Ireland Healthcare Scholarship

A former student of Errigal College, Dean Maduna (Class of 2024), has been honoured with the esteemed scholarship at a honorary event held in Rock Hill House recently.

Dean stood out among 14 exceptional scholars who were recognised for their academic achievements on the night.

Valued at an impressive €5,000 per year, the Optum Ireland Healthcare Scholarship provides Dean with the financial support necessary to complete his undergraduate studies.

The Ireland Health Care Scholarship Program aims to invest in a 21st century health workforce that meets the needs of tomorrow and promote diversity in higher education by supporting young people from less advantaged and non-traditional backgrounds. The program is delivered by Optum Ireland in partnership with the Atlantic Technological University, Ulster University, University of Galway, Queen’s University and the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin.

The Optum Scholarship is a testament to Dean’s dedication and aspirations. Currently studying Level 8 in General Nursing at the Atlantic Technological University, Letterkenny, Dean has his sights firmly set on pursuing a career in Medicine.

Mr Danny Mc Fadden, Principal of Errigal College, expressed his pride at the award.

He said “I am incredibly proud of Dean’s remarkable achievements. Witnessing our students excel and make a positive impact in their endeavours brings great joy  to the entire school community. Dean’s success stands as a testament to his hard work and dedication, and we feel privileged to have contributed to his educational  journey.”

The scholarship was presented to Dean by Erin Schmuker, Managing Director, Optum Ireland & UK and Paul Hannigan, Head of College, ATU Donegal (pictured above).
