Inspiring Adrian to host unique event to fight Motor Neurone Disease

An adopted Donegal man is the inspiration behind a unique sporting event will take place throughout the island of Ireland, at a coast or on a hilltop near you.

Two weeks from now, on Saturday, April 20,  ‘Summit 2 Sea for MND will attempt to raise much-needed funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).
The All Ireland challenge is the brainchild and legacy of Donegal man Adrian Harkin, 54, father and grandfather, originally from Derry but now living in Moville.
Adrian, who ran Inish Adventures, a water sports activity centre in Moville, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in August 2022.
This fast-acting disease has resulted in Adrian now relying on a computer for voice communication.
The April 20th inspired ‘Summit 2 Sea for MND’ event is to raise funding support for research into this life-limiting disease.
Previously Irish journalist and RTE broadcaster Charlie Bird brought together thousands of people in every part of Ireland to ‘Climb with Charlie’. His legacy resulted in millions being raised for IMNDA.
Donegal man Adrian Harkin continues with an unwavering commitment to the INMDA Charity, which supports research, people living with MND and the families of those suffering.
On April 20th 2024, a series of unique events will take place for the first time ever during the MND Summit 2 Sea events.
Whilst a 3172 kilometres relay circumnavigation of Irelands’ coastline, by experienced kayakers from every county, takes place, accomplished climbers will scale the summits of each of the highest peaks, in all 32 counties.
All participants, volunteering paddling and climbing, are excited and delighted to do so in order raise much needed funds for continued support of The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).
Adrian Harkin says that it’s his “way of supporting and giving back to Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association for the wonderful assistance provided to him and his family”.
