A young Inishowen kickboxer is on his way to the World Championships after landing Gold at last weekend’s Irish Open.

Buncrana’s Liam Grant (15) took part in the ISKA tournament in Derry along with coach Vaidus Natkus and members of the Senshi Martial Arts Academy Ireland.

Participating in the 60 kg category, he dominated in all three of his fights.

The first contest ended in a KO (knockout) and the second in a win.

His third and final fight also ended in a win which saw Liam secure Gold and a place on team Ireland for The Word Championships which will be held in Vienna, Austria, in October. He was also crowned the ISKA Irish Open K1 Champion last weekend.

“The day itself was fantastic, the talent that was showcased and the respect from all fighters was amazing,” a delighted Liam said.

“The Tournament itself was incredible and fantastically run by all that had a part in it.”
